Hello,
I'm renovating the facade of my old stonewall house, no insulation, the walls are not straight and don't have to be straight after renovation. I need to decide how I will work:
Removing old lime "omet" and add new omet + fina omet(a lot of work) or only some restauration of the old omet and then finnishing with fina.
For the first solution, most people advise me to start with "špric". Is this really common? Should'nt the walls be able to breath?
thank you for your input!

So called 'špric' is mix of cement, fine sand (river sand) and water. Your wall will not be sealed after 'špric'. It is only for better grasp between base and next layer (omet or rough-cast).

Hi, if the house is very old, without hidroisolation under stone wals, I would suggest to use very little or notihg cement base render.
You could use NHL lime like: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.fornacigrigolin.it/en/bio-edilizia/calce_natura.htm">http://www.fornacigrigolin.it/en/bio-ed ... natura.htm</a><!-- m -->
It's ok for old buildings, it does not contain a lot of salts like cement moratair. It is breatheable. I remember I have spent about 4€ per pack.(25kg)
Also špric could be done with only lime and sand (without cement).

Thanks!
Yes, the house is old and has no hidroisolation onder the walls. But we have no problems with moisture, It only feels healthy having walls which can breath.
The špric made without cement is interesting. Before, I made špric 1/1 cement/sand, but I believe this must be "vodo odporn".
How did people do it 100 years ago? With lime-based špric?

On a stone house surface, it is not necessary to do špric. There are builders that go direct with mortair on the stone wall.
In the technical data of the Kema restoration plaster you can read that you can ommit binding - špric.

Yes špric can also be made just of Lime and sand.
There is also an "old school" approach(not so expensive): you can just use lime putty and sand 1:3.
But it is not so easy to work with. It does not dry as quick as modern plasters do.
The best way to go for it when restoring an old house is to use the basic materials,
that house was built with.
